Senior Control Systems Engineer – ABB 800xA / AC800M
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our team, supporting the delivery, maintenance and enhancement of industrial automation and control systems across a range of onshore and offshore facilities. The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with ABB 800xA and AC800M systems and be capable of leading technical activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, develop and commission ABB 800xA and AC800M control systems.
- Support system upgrades, migrations and lifecycle management activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues in live operational environments.
- Develop and review functional design specifications, test documentation and engineering deliverables.
- Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning and start-up activities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
- Liaise with clients, vendors and project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety, quality and cybersecurity standards.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working with ABB 800xA and AC800M control systems.
- Strong understanding of DCS, PLC and industrial automation architectures.
- Experience in system modification, upgrades, commissioning and support.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues in critical process environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Must have right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with legacy ABB control systems and associated migration projects.
- Knowledge of third-party control and safety systems.
- Experience within the energy, oil & gas, utilities or process industries.
- Offshore certification and previous offshore project experience.
Travel Requirements
The role will require occasional travel to offshore installations, onshore client sites and project locations. There will also be opportunities for international travel to support project delivery, commissioning and client engagement activities.
